According to recent reports, the first solar-powered community in North America has been established in the Drake Landing Solar Community (DLSC) in the town of Okotoks, Alberta (Canada). This community consists of 52 houses powered by solar energy - a total of 800 solar panels are located on garage roofs throughout the community which generate 1.5 megawatts of solar thermal power during a typical summer day. It is reported that the system stores the summer months' excess energy underground for use in the winter months.
